BMI (Body Mass Index) is a quick calculation that compares your weight to your height. It gives a number that shows whether you’re underweight, at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese.

It’s not a perfect measure of health (because it doesn’t consider muscle or fat distribution), but it’s widely used by doctors as a simple health screening tool.


📏 How to Calculate BMI

The formula is:

BMI=Weight(kg)Height(m)2BMI = \frac{Weight (kg)}{Height (m)^2}

👉 Example:

  • Weight: 70 kg

  • Height: 1.75 m

  • BMI = 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.9

This falls into the Healthy Weight range.


📊 BMI Categories

  • Below 18.5 → Underweight

  • 18.5 – 24.9 → Healthy weight

  • 25 – 29.9 → Overweight

  • 30 and above → Obese


🎯 How to Find Your Ideal Weight Range

Instead of focusing only on numbers, you should aim for the ideal weight range for your height.

👉 Formula for Ideal Weight Range:

  • Lower Range = 18.5 × (Height in m²)

  • Upper Range = 24.9 × (Height in m²)

Example (Height: 1.75 m):

  • Lower Range = 18.5 × (1.75²) = 56.6 kg

  • Upper Range = 24.9 × (1.75²) = 76.1 kg
    ✅ So, the ideal weight is between 56.6 – 76.1 kg.
